Peru expresses its support for Ukraine at a special session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States | News

Peru supported the declaration of the “Situation in Ukraine”, which strongly condemns the illegal, unjustified and unjustified invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and calls for the immediate withdrawal of the military presence and the cessation of any further military action in that country.

The announcement came within the framework of the extraordinary session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, which was held the day before, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Likewise, the signatory states condemned the Russian Federation’s illegal recognition of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, “and reaffirmed the importance of respecting the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as fulfilling the obligations under international humanitarian law. The Law on the Protection of Civilian Populations”.

During the session of the Permanent Council, the Peruvian government called for the immediate start of consultations to reach a diplomatic, peaceful and negotiated solution, in compliance with the principles and obligations contained in the Charter of the United Nations, “considering that the Russian military attack constitutes an act of aggression in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 3314.”

Similarly, Peru has special priority for the protection and care of all Peruvians who are in Ukraine, including repatriation or transfer to third countries.

The declaration “Status in Ukraine” was signed by Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, United States, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Republic. Dominican Republic, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
