Applications open for university scholarships for grades 21-22 with a budget of 3 million

Junta de Castilla y León, as part of its commitment to equal opportunity, facilitates the continuation of higher education for university students in unfavorable economic conditions. To achieve this, the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (Bocyl) compiles today the second call for study aid aimed at undergraduates in community universities during the 2021-2022 academic year. In this way, the independent government continues to supplement the state study aid with a budget of up to 3,100,000 euros.

For the second year in a row, due to assistance adjustments from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP), the Ministry of Education has developed two methods. The Academic Achievement category is aimed at students in the second year and beyond and will be awarded in connection with credits passed in the 2020-2021 academic year. The Regional Administration will allocate more than 1.5 million euros for this assistance and the amount of this concept may, in any case, not be less than one euro or more than ten for each appropriation exceeded.

Recipients must be enrolled in at least 60 credits in the current academic period and have a net household income in 2020 of less than €14,112 for a counted member; 24.089 euros for two people; 32,697 euros for three people; 38,831 euros for four; €43,402 for five years; 46,853 euros for six; 50,267 euros for seven; and 53,665 euros for eight. From the eighth member, 3,391 euros will be added to each new member counted.

In the case of the rental method, with a budget of more than 1.5 million euros, all undergraduates may also be beneficiaries. With that said, it aims to cooperate on expenses caused by undergraduate studies that do not exceed certain income thresholds. The minimum amount for this assistance is €100 and the maximum is €350. For this method, the net household income must be less than €8,422 for the member subject to the calculation in 2020; 12,632 euros for two people; 16,843 euros for three people; 21,054 euros for four; 24,423 euros for five years; 27,791 euros for six; 31,160 euros for seven; and 34,529 euros for eight. From the eighth member, 3,368 euros will be added to each new calculated member.

Finally, if credit is not exhausted in granting any of these methods, the remainder can be applied to finance the other. If there is enough budget available to meet the minimum amounts specified for each method, the maximum global amount allocated will be divided among the beneficiaries, with a maximum amount.

Application Procedure

Students who wish to apply for these scholarships must complete the application through the computer application available on the Education Portal or at the Department’s online headquarters. Before May 9, they must register it electronically or in person in the register of the Ministry of Education or in any of the records provided for in the Law on Common Administrative Procedures for Public Administrations. The call will be resolved around July, in any case, before the maximum terms of the call order.

Last year, 4,215 students in the second year and beyond benefited exclusively from the use method, to which an additional 3,434 students also received the income method. On the other hand, 2,253 exclusive rental grants were awarded. In total, the Ministry of Education awarded scholarships to 9902 undergraduate students in the amount of €3 million.
